About Trek

Bagji Bugyal is an offbeat Himalayan meadow trek located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The name “Bagji” is believed to come from the local word “Bagh” (tiger), as the area was once inhabited by tigers several decades ago. Shepherds historically avoided the meadows to protect livestock from wild animals.

Today, Bagji Bugyal is known for:

  • Vast alpine meadows
  • Dense oak and rhododendron forests
  • Remote Himalayan villages
  • Peaceful uncrowded trails
  • Wide mountain panoramas

The trek begins from the small Himalayan village of Ghes and gradually climbs through forests, ridges, streams, and meadows before reaching the expansive Bagji Bugyal region.
