During Acclimatization
  • Acclimatization is mandatory for all expedition teams beyond 9000 feet of altitude.
  • Acclimatization should be progressive.
  • During acclimatization teams should adapt to windy whether, cold climate and move during night with loads.
  • Don't hide a medical problem.
  • Don't walk fast or run.
  • Above 12000 feet, don't climb more than 2000 feet in one day.
During Camping
  • Camping site should be near water source.
  • It should be naturally protected from hy winds and should receive sun light for most of the day.
  • Do not leave non-bio degradable waste behind.
  • Avoid low-lying Areas for camping.
  • Don't lit fire in a snow shelter.
  • Avoid places likely to be hit by lightning.
Walking on Mountains
  • Move to be organize in groups only. The weakest member of the party should never be last in the line.
  • A trained member should be detailed to bring up the rear and warm the leader, if there is any stragglers.
  • The pace should be that of the slowest member. Impatient walkers must confirm to the leader's pace and never be ahead of him.
  • Follow the correct principle of load carriage.
  • Avoid smoking and drinking on march/ move.
  • Avoid sweating.
  • Carry loads scientifically.
Health and Hygiene
  • Consume max hot beverages/water.
  • Avoid sweating by move at controlled pace.
  • Protect eyes from UV rays by wearing goggles.
  • Wear loose clothing for circulation of air.
  • Give move to face muscles to avoid cold injuries due to poor blood circulation.
  • Keep the head covered as it loses max body heat.
  • Keep the body warm and dry.
When Route is Lost
  • Find own loc.
  • Send SOS.
  • Construction of shelter or take natural shelter.
  • Mark own trail.
  • Plan and spend ration and fuel judiciously.
  • Stay together, if in a group.
  • Keep the body warm.
  • Don't panic.
  • Don't lose height.
  • Avoid places likely to be hit by lightning.
Miscellaneous
  • Lasix tabs to be carried.
  • Electrol/ Glucose to be carried while acclimatization and during treks.
  • Always carry helipad marking items for emergency air casualty evacuation.
  • Carry small arctic tents for camping.
  • Always boil water before drinking or use water purifying chemicals.
  • Min three months regular exercise before reporting for the expedition is essential to pass the test which includes 08 Km trekking up and down hill with 5-8 Kg load within a given time and other tests as applicable.
Once the expedition/trek gets completed successfully

The teams must follow following sequence of events. The expedition areas which are located in Forward Areas and close to LAC, following must be ensured:

  • Leave no trace.
  • Don't pollute the mother nature.
  • Bio-degradable waste to be disposed.
  • Non-biodegradable waste to be carried.
